Brett Houghton
Brett Matthew Houghton was born October 29, 1968, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Ronald and Connie (Doran) Houghton. He was the eighth and youngest of their children.
Brett was a dedicated father to four children: Taylor (Yesenia) Houghton, Austin (Bree) Houghton, Allie Jack and Bria Houghton. He also welcomed two step-children, Skyler Smith and Dalton Smith. He was a proud grandfather to Carson Houghton, Brayson Jack, Olivia Jack, Caselynn Drury, and Johanna Drury. Also left to cherish his memory along with his children and grandchildren, are his siblings: Chris (Bill) Blocker, Terri Stigers, Maryellen Houghton, Ron (Susan) Houghton, Steve (Michelle) Houghton, Pat (Jeana) Houghton, Connie (Paul) Gardalen.
Brett graduated from South Tama High School in 1987 and went straight to work. Over the years he held a variety of jobs, including driving a milk truck, working at Manatts and owning several of his own businesses. Brett was one of the hardest-working people you could meet and dedicated father throughout his life.
He enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeye football, dirt track racing and the occasional trip to the casino. You could often find him driving a mower, and it was rare to see him without shorts on, even in the Iowa winter. If he cared for you, he showed it by giving you a hard time. That was just his way. He was known to invite everyone – friend and stranger – over for a beer on the patio.
In his final moments, he was surrounded by the love of his children and grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his mother and father and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Michael J. Manatt Center in Brooklyn on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Memorials may be made payable to Taylor Houghton, and mailed to 509 E Main St., Brooklyn, IA 52211.
