Larry “Conk” Anderson
TAMA-Larry D. “Conk” Anderson, 90, of Tama, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Tama Community Church in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2026 from 4-7 PM at the church.
Larry was born on December 16, 1935, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Henry and Gladys (Strong) Anderson.
Larry graduated from Tama High School in 1953.
Larry served his county in the U.S. Army from September 1958 until September 1960.
On May 28, 1966, he was united in marriage to Catherine Shefchik at the Church of Christ in Pleasantville, Iowa. Conk’s employment over the years included Tama Paper Mill, delivering milk for Borden’s, Spahn and Rose, Nixon Feed, and DOT, retiring in December 1997. After retirement, he was a Security Guard at the Tama Paper Mill.
Larry’s hobbies included anything with family, as they were his pride and joy. He enjoyed playing cards. In his younger years, he liked horseshoes, golfing, fast-pitch softball, camping, bowling, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Catherine of Tama; daughter, Melody Cole of Tama; grandchildren, Celeste (Dustin) Betz of Marshalltown, Dakotah Cole of Tama, and Madison Cole of Tama; great grandchildren, Rebecca Cole, Estella, LeRoy, Henry, Susanna, Joseph, Franklin, Mabel, and Benjamin Betz; brother, Joe Anderson of Tama; sister, Audrey (Jim) Blocker of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Graham; brothers, Robert, Ronnie, Henry Jr., and Raymond.
Memorials may be directed to the Tama Community Church.
