Rebecca Murty

TAMA-Rebecca Ann Murty, 79, died on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. It was her wish to be cremated and there will be a Celebration of Life at a future date.

Rebecca was born on December 20, 1945, to William and Gwendolyn (Glass) Spalding in Virginia.

She attended school in Virginia. Rebecca was married to Lawrence Murty and together they had six children. She worked at Hill’s TV and Appliance, Tama Pack and the Meskwaki Casino, as well as other various local jobs. Rebecca retired from Kid’s Corner Daycare Center in Tama.

Rebecca grew up as a “military brat” and was very supportive of the military. She loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching the Green Bay Packers. Rebecca was an avid reader. Her pride and joy were her family. She cherished the time she spent with her family, always being there to take care of her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

Survivors include her six children, Anita Gunter of Neosho, Missouri, Dana Hanus of Tama, Penny Blink of Grinnell, William “Bill” (Margaret) Murty of Asbury, Missouri, Steven Murty (Monica Smith) of LeClaire and Robin (Eric) Murty-Long of Davenport; grandchildren, Shantel, Nikki, Saranne, Cody, Lawrenza, Brittany, Bryan, Timbre, Dayton, Sheldon, Alexis, Natalie, Claire, Jared and Brooke; several great and great-great grandchildren; and her siblings, Warren (Marti) Spalding, Helen Marie Fowler and Heidi (Robert) Price.

Preceding her in death were her parents; grandson, Nicholas Murty; sons-in-law, Mike Gunter and Andrew Suchanek; and brother, Richard Spalding.

Memorials may be directed to any military charity or children’s charity of your choice.
