Kenneth Coye

MONROE-Kenneth Joel Coye, 76, of Monroe and formerly of Toledo, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025 at his home due to a sudden illness. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo Pastor Paul Rendall officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the Graveside Service on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 10-11 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Kenneth was born on August 16, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Rachel (Atchison) Coye.

He graduated from South Tama High School in 1967.

Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star and Meritorious Unit Commendation.

On August 16, 1973, he was united in marriage to Barbara Diane Papesh in Camdenton, MO. Kenneth was formerly Maintenance Supervisor at DMACC. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His hobbies included collecting marbles and other items and was an accomplished Accordian player. Kenneth loved his dog, Benji Boy Coye. He dreamed of being a farmer and finally got a small farm and acreage later in life. Kenneth was a faithful son and liked getting together with his old FFA friends.

Survivors include one brother Paul (Dee) Coye of Post Falls, ID; stepson, Randy (Lynda) Caley of Madison Heights, VA; step granddaughter, Alyssa (William) Goodspeed and her children, Liam and Callan Goodspeed; aunt, Mary Chyma of Toledo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Barbara on November 21, 2011; and sister, Ruth Ayoub.
