Evelyn Carlson

TAMA-Evelyn Christina Carlson, 94, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 9:30-11 AM at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born on July 16, 1930, on the family farm near Clutier, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph F. and Christina (Kadrmas) Kriz.
She attended country school.
On May 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald Carlson at St. Joseph’s Rectory in Chelsea, Iowa. Evelyn was a homemaker. After Don passed away, she worked at Hardee’s in Toledo, making their biscuits, where she got the name “Granny Biscuit.” She worked various other places before Hardee’s.
Evelyn was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for sixty-two years, and a women’s group they called the “Golden Girls.” Her hobbies included sewing, embroidering, puzzles, and reading.
Survivors include her children, Bill (Nancy) Carlson of Tama, Dawn (Andy) Troutner of Melbourne, Elizabeth Groenenboom (Mike Jesina) of Chelsea, John (Christina) Carlson of Belle Plaine and Mary Blocker of Tama; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Martha Breja of Vining; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Donald; son-in-law, John Groenenboom; infant brother; sister, Pauline at age two; four brothers, Melvin, Joe R., Ludwig, Alfred, and Frank Kriz; three sisters-in-law, Betty Kriz, Marcella Kriz, and Donna Kriz; one brother-in-law, James Breja; and nephews, Joey M. Kriz, and Alan J. Breja.
Memorials may be directed to St. Wenceslaus Oratory Church in Clutier.
