Toni Smith

TAMA-Toni Ann Smith, 73, of Tama, passed away, Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service to follow at 7 PM.

Toni was born September 3, 1951, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Anthony “Tony” and Rosaria “Sadie” (Licatesi) Salomone.

Toni went to St. Patrick’s Catholic School through the 8th grade. In 1969, she graduated from the first class of the new STC High School.

On June 28, 1969, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Smith in Kirksville, MO. Toni worked at Tama Florist, as a receptionist at a chiropractor in Tama, and Super 8 Motel in Toledo. She also helped Lloyd on the farm.

Toni was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea, and a long time American Legion Auxiliary member. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. She was always very active with playing softball, bowling, aerobics with Pam Wood, and walking. Toni loved to travel and attend car shows with Lloyd, where she was known to do her Marilyn Monroe impersonations. Even though her life was full of adventures and activities, her family was her everything.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, Lloyd of Tama; two sons, Travis (Darcy) Smith of Tama, and Levi (Kelli) Smith of Tama; six grandchildren, Damon and Luke Smith, Sadie and Brayden Smith, and Livia and Kiya Smith; nephew, Matt Popelka of Toledo; and several great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Damon Smith; and sister, Mary “Paula” Salomone.

A memorial fund will be established.
