Eugene Hayek

Eugene Leonard Hayek, 76, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Clutier, Iowa, passed away on April 22, 2025. He was born on February 18, 1949, the son of Leonard and Lillian (Posusta) Hayek. A Memorial Service will be held this summer in Iowa.
Gene was raised in rural Iowa and graduated from Traer High School in 1967. He spent much of his life farming and raising cattle–work that wasn't just a career, but a calling he deeply loved.
On August 4, 1984, he married Florence Ellis. In 1986, they moved to Phoenix, where Gene brought his strong values, sense of humor, and love for the land into a new community and a growing family.
Gene was a devoted family man who found his greatest joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether he was hunting with loved ones, cooking up his famous fried chicken, or simply sitting around telling jokes, Gene made every moment meaningful. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, and his warmth, wit, and generosity left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Gene is survived by his wife, Florence and his children: Keri (Gerald) Kinney; Toby (Sarah) Hayek; Jena (Paul) Clark; and Scot (April) Ellis. He was a proud Grandfather to Derek Kinney; Brady, Caden, & Cooper Hayek; Lauren Clark; and Tyler & Dylan Ellis. He is also survived by siblings: Brothers & Sisters, Carolyn (Marv) Bohnstengel; Monica (Al) Brezina; Mary (Terry) Boldt; Norman (Doreen) Hayek; Ramona (Mitch) Zimbeck; Paul (Lisa) Hayek; Connie (John) Mahlstede; sisters-in-law, Barb Wieben and Sonia Hayek; and numerous nieces and nephews.
