Richard Veit
Long time resident of Chelsea, Iowa Richard A. Veit, 85, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone, Ia.
Richard was born on April 15, 1939 to parents Cloyd and Ruth (Klenk) Veit. He attended schools in Tama County with graduation from Chelsea High School. He worked for his uncle and aunt in their grocery store until being hired by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad as a lineman electrician. Richard was then drafted into the Army and served two years in the Signal Corps. When he returned to Iowa he continued to work for CNW railroad until retirement.
Richard’s hobbies included playing music, especially bluegrass, and he enjoyed playing banjo, guitar and violin. Richard was a generous man and was always willing to help a fellow neighbor. He was known for sharing his garden produce and was willing to run errands for those needing extra help.
He is survived by his brother William (Lucy of Tracy, Mn; sister-in-law Sharo of North Liberty, Ia.; nephews, Robertof Pensacola, Fla; John (Juanita of Alexandria, Mn.; Gary (Lynn of Worthington, Mn.; Joseph (Kelly of Edina, Mn.; Susan (Brad) Huff, of Solon, Ia.; uncle Harold Jack, of Chelsea, Ia. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Edmond.
A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine. Burial will be at Rector Cemetery, Chelsea, IA
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Rector Cemetery care of David Klenk or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Online condolences can be given to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com.
