Sean McFate
TOLEDO-Sean Michael McFate, 56, of Toledo, passed away, Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Sean was born on June 30, 1968, in Phoenix, AZ, the son of Michael and Suzanne “Sue” (Bidwell) McFate.
He graduated from South Tama High School in 1987.
On June 12, 1993, he was united in marriage to Sheri Meek at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Sean currently worked for Burke Corporation in Nevada as a wastewater operator. Prior to that, he worked at the Tama Paper Mill and the City of Toledo.
Sean loved fishing, especially Trout fishing, and camping. He enjoyed welding and made yard art. He loved all kinds of music, especially KISS (Ace Frehley), and playing guitar, where he was a former member of “Smokin.” Sean was into cars, especially Pontiac Trans Ams. He loved his dogs, but especially loved his time with his daughters and grandson. Sean was a big Iowa Hawkeye fan, especially football, wrestling and the girls’ basketball games.
Survivors include his wife, Sheri of Toledo; two daughters, Aubree McFate (Chris Blocker) of Toledo, and Autumn McFate of Toledo; grandson, Axl Blocker; his mother, Sue McFate of Reinbeck; sisters, Pam (Rob) Werner of Gilbertville, and Missy (Willy) Haughey of Tama; mother-in-law, Sandy Meek of Tama; brother-in-law, Brad (Gail) Meek of Toledo; sister-in-law, Kim Meek of Toledo; nieces and nephews, Brandon Haughey, Charity Seymour, Cortney Seymour-Slack, Alexis Meek, Kailee Meek, Natalie Meek, Olivia Meek, Breanna Meek, and Blaze Meek; and several great nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Sean was preceded in death by his father, Michael McFate; father-in-law, Harold Meek; both paternal and maternal grandparents; aunt, Cindy Bidwell; and his beloved dogs.
A memorial fund will be established.
