Clifford Foster

CHELSEA – Clifford J. Foster, 68, of Chelsea, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Sunday, December 22, 2024. A celebration of life visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Saturday, January, 11, 2025, at the Micheal J. Manatt Community Center in Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is caring for Cliff and his family.

Cliff is survived by his children: Chad Foster, Jeremy Foster, both of Brooklyn; Jessica (Brian) Wilcox, of Prairie City, John Foster, of Knoxville, and an honorary son Eric Garringer, of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren; his brothers Rod (Kathy) and Terry Foster and his sister Kay (Dave) Besaw.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Cathy in 2017.

Clifford James Foster was born July 22, 1956, in Laurens, Iowa, the son of Jack E. and Beverly Marsh Foster. Cliff and his brother Terry enlisted together in 1974, with Cliff enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and his brother Terry in the U.S. Marines. After serving Cliff enrolled in a vocational school in Jackson, Minnesota, for sales, marketing and management. He was united in marriage to Catherine Kepler on July 25, 1981. Cliff designed and completed installation in Emmett, Poweshiek, and Tama counties working for the NRCS as a field technician, totaling 100 ponds by livestock water and recreation. He also ran miles of terraces for water and sediment control basins and over 200 acres of grazed waterways. Cliff was given the Golden Buffalo Award for his close work with the Meskwaki settlement. He always had a big garden, growing vegetables and selling them at Holiday Lake and also donating to local food banks for many years. He was also influential in GALFA (Grinnell Area Local Food Association). He dedicated many years to coaching little league baseball in Brooklyn. Cliff enjoyed collecting marbles, sports cards, comic books and watching M*A*S*H on tv. He was a stockholder and huge fan of the Green Bay Packers. Cliff listened to rock music, the Beatles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top were his favorites. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
