Sharon (Kapayou) Mauskemo

TAMA-Sharon Kay (Kapayou) Mauskemo, 79, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A Traditional Wake will be held Wednesday Evening, September 4, 2024 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.
Sharon was born on March 22, 1945, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Kapayou and Anna Mae Black Cloud.
She graduated from Ottumwa High School.
On July 22, 1966, she married Ernie Mauskemo in Webster, SD. Sharon retired from Meskwaki Bingo & Casino. She enjoyed bowling and going to concerts.
Survivors include sons, Todd Mauskemo of Tama, and Terry Kapayou; daughter, Kelly Surgeon of Ottumwa; sister, Wanda Kapayou of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ernie Mauskemo Sr; son, Ernie Mauskemo Jr; sisters, Shirlene K. Eagle and Marge Mauskemo; and her brother, Jimmie Ward.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
