Mary “Paula” Salomone

TOLEDO-Mary “Paula” Salomone, 75, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Tama American Legion. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama.

Mary was born on April 22, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Anthony and Rosaria (Licatesi) Salomone.

She graduated from South Tama High School in 1967 and received an Associate’s Degree in the dental field.

She was formerly married to Donald Popelka and together they had one son, Matthew. Paula enjoyed gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Matthew Popelka of Toledo; two granddaughters, Brittany (Josh) Kukich and Celestina Popelka; one grandson, Nicholas Popelka; two great-grandsons, Jaylen Kukich and Armando Villalobos; her sister, Toni Ann (Lloyd) Smith of Tama; and nephews, Travis (Darcy) Smith of Tama and Levi (Kelli) Smith.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and nephew, Damon Smith.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
