Vera was born on July 10, 1925, in Clinton County near Teeds Grove, Iowa, the daughter of William F. and Theresa (Jess) Mackeprang.

Vera attended school at the Shady Dell Country School. She later attended and graduated from Miles High School in Miles, Iowa in 1942. After high school, she attended A.I.C. in Davenport, Iowa. Her first job was at Climax Engineering Company until 1944. Her next employment was at Schick Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. She stayed there until 1946 when the War Effort was winding down. She moved to Des Moines at that time being transferred to the Army Air Force Depot located at the State Fairgrounds. When it closed, she moved to the Veterans Administration Center located in the Valley Bank Building in downtown Des Moines.

On October 18, 1952, she was united in marriage to Ronald B. Fuller in Clinton, Iowa. They lived in Des Moines until 1960 where Ron had a venetian blind business. 1960, Ron closed his business and Vera retired from the Veterans Administration. They moved to Tama, Iowa and purchased the Clifton Hotel in Tama. They owned and operated the hotel for fifteen years until it was sold to the City of Tama. The site was later developed for the current Civic Center and fire station. In 1965, Vera started a new position at the Sac and Fox Day School located on the Sac and Fox Settlement. During this time Vera was very active in helping the Meskwaki Nation maintain their school and made many lasting friendships. She held this position for 15+ years-retiring in 1981.

Upon retirement Vera and Ron started their winter jaunts to Alamo, Texas from 1981-1988. Ron’s health was declining and he died on May 7, 1990. They had no children but were blessed with plenty of nieces and nephews close by. Vera stayed busy doing volunteer work and was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama where she was active in the UMW. She was also a member of the Tama Civic Women, Tama American Legion Auxiliary, Tama-Toledo Eagles Auxiliary, and the National Association of Retired Employees (NARFE). Vera was quoted saying- “One can have a fulltime job doing volunteer work if you want to.”

Left to mourn and honor Vera are several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Marian Fuller. Special mention to Peg Kedley and Rich Fuller who assisted Vera in her later years. Vera was a people person. She loved to meet new people and thoroughly enjoyed her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ronald B. Fuller; and her brothers, Ray, Carroll and Wayne Mackeprang.
