Hattie Whitebreast

TAMA-Hattie Francine Whitebreast, 65, of Tama, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics. A Traditional Wake will be held Monday Evening, May 20, 2024 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Hattie was born on July 16, 1958 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Isaac and Agnes (Davenport) Shuckahosee Jr.

She was the Valedictorian of STC in 1976 and was active in marching band.

In 1997, she married Dean Whitebreast in Tama, Iowa. Hattie was employed at the Meskwaki Casino as an administrative assistant in the engineering department. She enjoyed spending time with her family, numerous friends and her dogs. She also enjoyed traveling to different Pow-Wows with her husband and cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners. Hattie was an expert seamstress (specializing in Meskwaki Regalia) and liked drive-in theaters. She was proud to help the community when asked.

Survivors include sons, Damon Ramsey Whitebreast of Montour; brothers, Charlie (Kathy) Shuckahosee of Toledo, Raymond (Daria) Slick of Tama and Bradley Shuckahosee of Tama; sisters, Mary Shuckahosee of Tama, Margaret “Annie” Shuckahosee of Tama and DeLarcy (Uriah) Wanatee of Tama; adopted mom, Jessica (Jarvis) Bear of Tama; and sister, Iris Roberts of Tama; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dean; sister, Marguerite Youngbear; and niece, Dawn Marland.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
