Marian Davenport

MONTOUR-Marian June Davenport, “Bye-Ta-Na-Kwi-a”, 81, of Montour, passed away, Monday, May 13, 2024, at her home. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2:00 PM at McIntosh Cemetery.

Marian was born on November 21, 1942, in Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank D. Wanatee Sr. and Jean Adeline Morgan.

She graduated from South Tama High School. Marian worked as a receptionist for Meskwaki Cultural Center and Museum.

Marian enjoyed going to the casino, watching the ION channel; especially when Law and Order was on. She loved attending the ball games of her grandchildren and visiting with family.

Survivors include her adopted mother, Alma Ward; adopted son, Virgil Lasley; grandchildren, Karac (Gabbi) Davenport, Courtney (Dennis) Davenport, Kaleb (Christy) Davenport, Carissa Davenport; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Roberts and Carolyn “Sunni” Joy; brother, Frank Wanatee Jr.; adopted brothers, Aaron Walker, Mike Keahna and Glenn Roberts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Elmer Robers Jr., daughter, Geraldine Davenport; son, Garry Davenport, Jr.; adopted daughter, Sophilia Keahna; sister, Frances Salazar; brothers, Darrel Wanatee and Donald Wanatee Sr; and a baby brother and sister in infancy.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
