Marlene Morgan

TAMA-Marlene Rae Morgan “Moonittega”, 79, of Tama, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at Birkwood Village of Tama/Toledo. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday evening, May 7, 2024 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Morgan Cemetery on the Settlement.

Marlene was born on March 10, 1945, the daughter of Gailey and Clara (Youngbear) Morgan Sr.

On February 14, 1998, she married Joseph Andrew Thomas at the Mesquakie Friends Church in rural Tama. Marlene worked in PBX at the Meskwaki Casino for ten years. She enjoyed going to the Meskwaki Senior Services, sewing, thrifting, cooking and was a big fan of Elvis.

Survivors include her sons, Michael Sanache of Tama, Gerald Sanache of Tama, Marland (Sheila) Sanache of Tama; adopted sister, Aldean Bear; adopted children, Rhiannon Walker, Allison Lasley, Anton Pushetonequa, Charlie Seymour, Jessica and Elliot Funmaker and Bruce Mauskemo; sister, Loretta Begay of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Gene Morgan of Tama, Adrian Pushetonequa of Tama; grandchildren, Quincey, Tricia, Chase, Sam, Dayton, Brandon, Lance, Kyla, Agnes, George, Gerald Jr., Marlene, Morgan, Autumn, Azra, Miley, Maddix, Raphael, Jada, Eva and Devin; great-grandkids, Agustin and many more; son-in-law, Pedro Perez; stepdaughter, Devonna Thomas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Gailey and Clara Morgan; husband, Joseph Andrew Thomas; sons, George Sanache and Matthew Sanache; daughter, Marilee Sanache; sister, Sylvia Kapayou; brothers, Gerald, Gary, Gaylen, Gailey and Gary Davenport, Jack Aguilar and Gregory Keahna.

The family would like to thank Birkwood Village for Marlene’s excellent care.
