Carole Baker

Carole Baker, 83, of Le Grand, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the evening of March 7, 2024 at Unity Point Health Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

A celebration of life will be held for Carole on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama, Iowa following the celebration. Memorials in Carole’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Carole Jean Hill was born October 9, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa. She was the fifth of seven children born to Lowell and Gladys Hill. Carole grew up in Tama, Iowa and attended school at Tama where she later graduated in the class of 1958.

On May 10, 1958 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert Baker in Miami, Oklahoma. In the early years of their marriage, they were living in various towns around Iowa with their two children, Chris and Steven. Later in life they would call Le Grand their home. Carole worked many jobs in the accounting field over the years but in her children’s younger years she was a homemaker and cared for her family first. She had part time work in the banking industry as a teller while the children were at school.

In her free time, Carole enjoyed watching soap operas, teaching her grandchildren sewing and embroidering alongside her own projects, working in the garden, and family dinners on Sunday evenings. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carole is survived by her son, Chris Baker; her grandchildren, Erik (Sandy) Baker, Jeremy Baker, Matthew (Alexa) Baker, Nicole Ferguson and Kelli (Kenny) Wagner; her great-grandchildren, Rylan, Kade, Natalia, Madison, Cameron and Eden Baker and Leo Ferguson; and her siblings, Janet Kellogg and Janice Welton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Baker; her son Steven Baker and her twin daughters in infancy Diane and Denise Baker; her parents Lowell and Gladys Hill; and her siblings, Donald, Ronald, Duane, and Mary Hill.
