John Kucera

John Scott Kucera, 82, rural Toledo, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. John requested no formal funeral services.

John was born June 11, 1941, the son of Frank and Mamie (Nachazel) Kucera in Toledo.

He attended country school at Howard No. 1 and then Carroll No. 3 through the 8th grade and was a 1959 graduate of Toledo High School.

Later in life, he continued to work on his doctorate degree in the “School of Hard Knocks.”

John married Janet Goodhart, April 20, 1963, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, rural Clutier. They lived on a farm in Perry Township before building the family home in rural Toledo. After high school, he farmed with his father and younger brother Mark in the Traer area. In addition to farming, he was a rural mail carrier for the Toledo Post Office from 1966 until retirement in 2004. He had various other occupations such as: STC bus driver, Rank's Cleaning Service and the Tama Pack.

John is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Chris (Danielle), Plainfield, IL and Tim (Teresa), Fulton, MO; grandchildren: Mallery, Kurt, Ben, Nate, Rachel; great grandchildren: Landon, Roman, Elliott, Shiloh; sisters, Mary Jane Rinkleff and Susan Gorder and brother, Mark Kucera.

John enjoyed nature including his pond, landscaping, planting trees and shrubs. He is remembered for his fondness for playing cards and listening to Polka music. He enjoyed spending time with his family and researching genealogy with his wife, Janet.
