Delane Cizek

TOLEDO-Delane Lewis “Dempsey” Cizek, 72, of Toledo, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at Mercy One in Waterloo. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church.

Delane was born on February 18, 1951, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of George and Mildred (Karkosh) Cizek.

He graduated from North Tama High School in 1969. He attended UNI prior to coming home to run the family business.

On February 14, 1981, he was united in marriage to Jackie McAteer Valline in Gibson City, IL.

He owned Cizek Manufacturing and Distributing, a repair and manufacturing company in Clutier that he took over from his father in 1972. It was established in 1911.

Dempsey was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, where he served on Session, was a Trustee, a Deacon and taught Sunday School. He also was a past president of the ZCBJ Hall in Clutier. Dempsey enjoyed iron work and was a master craftsman and artist when it came to metal work. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids and other family.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie, of Toledo; three children: Paige Valline, of Toledo, Julie (Kurt) Pudil, of Robbinsville, NC and Bryan (Rhonda) Valline, of Tama; grandchildren: Brooke Yuska, Kyle Chyma, Todd (Ashley) Valline, Bryana (Jesse) Hoskey and Ryan Valline; great-grandchildren: Kyler, Aniston, Brynlee, Paityn, Karver, Preston, Khaleesi, Emmery and Liam; sisters and brothers-in-law; several cousins; niece, Penny (Rob) Soat and nephew, Paul Cizek.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dallas Cizek.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo or Tama County Humane Society.
