Leonard McCune

TOLEDO-Leonard Edward McCune, 83, of rural Toledo, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown following a long illness surrounded by his family. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 8, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Clint Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.

Leonard was born on February 17, 1940, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Charles and Elaine (Bumsted) McCune.

Leonard graduated from Tama High School in 1957, attended Iowa State University and served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.

On January 26, 1963, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jordebrek in State Center, Iowa. Together they had three children. Leonard worked as a plumber and electrician before farming and trucking, working many years with his father and brother, Quentin.

Leonard was a longtime member of the Tama County and Marshalltown community bands. He enjoyed tractor rides, race cars, dancing and was a fan of the Lawrence Welk show. Leonard will be missed for his humor and pranks.

Survivors include by his wife of sixty years, Barb; his children: Christine (Mark) McFate, Mark McCune (friend, Teresa) and Deborah (Doug) Rassler; Also, his grandchildren: Mason and Michael McCune and Morgan and Mackenzie McFate; and brother, Quentin (Chris) McCune.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandson, Ian McFate and brother, Larry McCune.
