Donald Rairdin

TOLEDO-Donald George Rairdin, 85, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 10-11 AM at the church.

Donald was born on August 11, 1938, in Blairsburg, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Margaret (Loughry) Rairdin.

He graduated from Toledo High School.

On June 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Carlene Kay Suchy at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo. Don was a purchasing agent at the Tama Meat Packing Corporation and also a manager at Barron Motors in Toledo. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, Masonic Lodge and El Kahir Shrine. Don was on the Toledo City Council for many years and was an active EMS driver for the Toledo Ambulance. He loved high school sports, musical productions and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Don and Carlene enjoyed going to plays and concerts together. They would drive two hours to see their grandson, Jake in his events. Don loved being there for his family and the community.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Rairdin of Toledo, and Diane (Aaron) Lenning of Humboldt; his grandson, Jacob Lenning; sister, Lois (Kyle) Chaska of Tama; brother, Jim Rairdin of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Donna (Gene) Banes of Toledo; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Carlene on August 6, 2020; and an infant brother, Dean Rairdin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Toledo Ambulance Service.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
