Daniel J. Ray

Daniel was born February 1, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Robert W. Ray and Margie M. (Bostian) Ray, of Toledo, Iowa.

Dan attended and graduated in 1966 from South Tama County School.

Dan joined the U.S. Navy June 10, 1967. He served as EM2(SS). He was proud of the fact that he served on two submarines; the USS Sennett, SS498, and the USS Harder, SS 568. His naval career took him to the South Pacific, North Pacific and Viet Nam. He received an honorable discharge April 1, 1971.

In 1971, Dan realized his dream by moving to Phoenix where he worked in Electronic/Machine Repair for Motorola then, Garrett Turbine. He also worked at a Retirement Facility. Dan was very proud of the time he spent on the board of directors of the Arizona Bear Society 1987-89.

Dan’s last 12 years were spent living at the Pueblo Manor Mobile Home Park in Apache Junction, Arizona. Dan was pleased, as a disabled person, to be accepted by this community.

Dan fought a valiant fight to stay independent. This was accomplished by the help of many neighbors and Dan’s sister, Linda (Ray) Leek and her husband Laywin.

Dan was survived by one sister Linda (Laywin) Leek Toledo.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Margie Ray, and his companion dog Buddy.
