Dolores Marie Asmussen, 92

Dolores Marie Asmussen, 92, of Marshalltown and formerly of Chelsea, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Chelsea. Visitation will be held Monday, August 21, 2023, from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church.
Dolores was born on March 26, 1931, in Hartwick, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Leona (McIlrath) Martens.
She graduated from Hartwick High School, where she played Basketball. She then attended business school at AIB in Des Moines. In 1955, she was united in marriage to Frank Asmussen at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Dolores helped Frank on the farm and worked at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama for thirty years. She also sorted corn for Pioneer and made wreaths at the Belle Plaine Nursery.
Dolores was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea, where she was involved in the Altar and Rosary Society. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed growing flowers and watching Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball.
Survivors include her children: Julie Asmussen, of Urbandale, Janie (Joseph) Romano, of Ames, Janine (Alan) Grombacher, of Saskatchewan, Canada, Jody Asmussen, of Chelsea, Joy (Joel) Wolter, of Denver, IA and Jon (Lisa) Asmussen, of Dysart; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her brother, Don (Dorothy) Martens, of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank in 1992; son, Jim Asmussen and brother, Bernard Martens.
Memorials may be directed to the South Tama Elementary School.
