Betty (Kaufman) Coleman, 84

Betty (Kaufman) Coleman, 84, Toledo, Iowa, left us on June 23, 2023, surrounded by love and many family members. Daughter of Albert and Mabel (Behounek) Kaufman, Betty was born on August 28, 1938, on the farm in Richland Township, Tama County. Betty graduated from Chelsea High School and earned an associate degree.

On November 8, 1958, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Coleman. They enjoyed 64 amazing years together, raised 7 children, and toured the world. Always with a book in her hand, many will remember Betty as librarian at the Chelsea Public Library or the South Tama Intermediate School. Others will remember her love shown through many, many Kolaches, cinnamon rolls and delicious meals or through her beautiful flower gardens.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim, and son Allen.

Betty is survived by her sister Joan Akers, children: Ann Brau, Jean Coleman, Theresa Coleman-Kaiser, Steve Coleman, Janice Coleman and Ellen Moran, and many in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Please join us for a celebration of Betty’s life to be held on August 6, 2023, 11:00-1:00, at the Wieting Theatre, 101 South Church St., Toledo, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, please consider bringing your favorite children’s book to the celebration of life. All books will be donated to South Tama Elementary.
