Darlene Marie Husak, 90

Darlene Marie Husak, 90, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael McAndrew as celebrant. Interment will follow at National Cemetery in Vining. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Darlene was born on October 27, 1932, the daughter of Emil and Alyce (Postolka) Duhachek. She grew up in the Chelsea area on her parents’ farm.

She graduated from Tama High School in 1951.

On August 17, 1954, she was united in marriage to John V. Husak at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama.

The couple settled on a farm northeast of Toledo, where they were actively farming until her husband’s passing in 2001. Darlene remained active on the farm, helping with the livestock chores. She also liked gardening and always had a big garden. In addition to being a housewife, farmwife and mother, she worked as a cook for the STC schools. Later in life, she was employed at Sunnyhill Care Center in Tama as a CNA, housekeeper and dietary aide, retiring in 2000.

Darlene was a parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, and a member of the CCW.

She enjoyed going on trips with her husband.

Darlene was proud of her Czech heritage, shown through her baking kolaches, rohlicky and listening to KCRG Polka Party and Variety Time on WMT 600 on Sunday mornings.

Survivors include her children: Gerald (Cheryl) Husak, Patti (Willy) Barker, Bob (Deb) Husak, all of Toledo, Rich (Jan) Husak, and Nancy Ellis, all of Marshalltown, Becky (Brian) Wuebker, of Palmer; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John on January 3, 2001; one brother, David Duhachek; son-in-law, Dave Ellis and daughter-in-law, Debbie Husak.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future contributions.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
