David Stanley Brezina, 66

David Stanley Brezina, 66, of Traer, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at his home after a twenty-one month battle with Leukemia. He was under the care of his family and St. Croix Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer with Father Anthony Boahen Nketiah as celebrant. Interment will follow at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. Visitation was held Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 4-7 PM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer.

David was born on September 22, 1956, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mable (McCabe) Brezina. He was the 3rd child of 4.

David attended SEMCO grade school in southeast Marshall County before moving to the Traer area in 1967. He graduated from North Tama High School in 1975. After high school, he attended Iowa State University achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture.

David married Karen Carlson in 1979 and they would later divorce. He married Betty Keller in 1991. He welcomed a daughter Johanna with this marriage. David and Betty were foster parents to many children. They adopted daughter Lacie and son Michael in 1999. David and Betty would later divorce. In 2021, David married Julianna Sloyer. She brings two adult children, Marisa (Tristan) Ingalls and Dalton to this family.

David loved working with his dad and farming at an early age. He was always by his side learning. When he was old enough, he worked as hired help for many neighbors. In 1983, he started farming for himself with his dad by his side.

David always tried to help people, often giving advice, a place to stay, a job and a kick in if needed. When David could get away for a bit, he liked to fish, collect a lot of things and talk. He could fix anything. He enjoyed cooking many meals for family and friends. David was also a licensed auctioneer.

He is survived by his wife; three children; two stepchildren; one granddaughter, Desirae, who was lovingly adopted by Dan and Juliana Reisner; one step-granddaughter, Mazikeen Ingalls; brother, Michael (Jan) Brezina, of Iowa City; sister, Charlene Wood, of Traer; brother, Paul (Jean) Brezina, of Redwood Falls, MN; four nephews, Scott and Jeff Wood, Matt and Tim Brezina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, LeRoy ”

Woody” Wood.
