Marilyn Ledvina
Marilyn A. Ledvina, 90, Elberon, IA, passed away January 4, 2023, at the home of her granddaughter, Amy; sur- rounded by her family.
Marilyn was born March 1, 1932, to Fred and Mary (Silhanek) Cernin in rural Elberon. She graduated from Tama High School, class of 1950. Following school, she worked as a secretary for a law firm and at the grocery store in Elberon until her marriage. On January 15, 1957, Marilyn married Melvin Ledvina at Holy Trinity Church in rural Vining, IA. Together they farmed in Tama County and loved going to dances throughout their 52-year marriage.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, and gardening. She was devoted in her faith as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vining and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chelsea and was an active member of the CSA Hall in Vining for many years.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Janice Ledvina, of Elberon, Mike (Connie) Ledvina, of Toledo, John (Barb) Ledvina, of Ankeny, Dave (Denise) Ledvina, of Johnston; 6 grandchildren: Matt (Kristin) Ledvina, Molly (Andrew) Pendleton, Ben Ledvina, Amy (Derek) Townsend, Adam Ledvina, Travis (Heather) Tams; 11 great-grandchildren: Haven, Lucy, Judah, Davis, John, Eleanor, Cohen, Ava, Carter, Colby and Carly; brother, Fred (Julie) Cernin, of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Shirley Cernin, of Elberon, Martha Plucar, of Keystone, and Marcella Vranek, of DesMoines.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin (2009); great-granddaughter, Micaela Townsend; and brother, Dick Cernin.
Service is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chelsea with Fr. Michael McAndrew and Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial will take place at National Cemetery in Vining.
