Shirley Dee “Da ka te ta no ga” Sanache, 75

Shirley Dee “Da ka te ta no ga” Sanache, 75, of Mitchellville and formerly of Tama, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, at her home. A Traditional Wake was held Friday evening at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services were held Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour with Mike Keahna as speaker.

Shirley was born on June 27, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of George and Flora (Jefferson) Sanache.

She graduated from South Tama High School in 1966.

On July 16, 1990, she married Rick Conger. Shirley worked for the Ma Bell Telephone Company for forty-five years. She enjoyed sewing, going to Pow wows and loved to fish.

Survivors include her husband, Rick, of Mitchellville; son, Patrick Steve, of Des Moines; granddaughter, Ashley Steve, of Kansas; brothers, Alvin L. Wild Cat, of Montour, Daniel (Waskonas) Wabaunasee, of Toledo, and Donald Wabaunasee, of Phoenix, AZ; nephews: Michael, Gerald, Marland, Delson, John, Brian and Andrew; nieces: Suzanne, Yolanda, Danelle, Dalyn, Delonda, Delinda, Kathy, Fuscia, Sally and Shyla; adopted sister, Toni Lasley; adopted brothers, Deron Ward and Gilbert Brown; Sanache family and numerous extended family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her grandparents that raised her, Susie and Horace Poweshiek; sons, Jeremy and Charles Steve Jr.; sisters, Rhonda Pushetonequa and Julie Sanache; brothers, John Wabaunasee and Dallas Wabaunasee; and two nephews, George and Matthew Sanache.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
