Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Kearney, 82

Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Kearney, 82, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Unity Point Health-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 15, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael McAndrew as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama. Visitation was on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Cindy was born June 13, 1940, to William and Albina Banes Yilek in rural Tama County. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1958. She was married to Daniel Kearney and together they had four children. They later divorced.

She worked several years as a chiropractic assistant for Dr. Jewell in Toledo. She was a devout member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and before COVID, Cindy visited and took Communion to several homebound parishioners. Cindy liked sewing, puzzles and going to the Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed taking care of her plants and her cats.

Cindy is survived by her sons, James (Donna) Kearney, of Yankton, South Dakota, and Patrick Kearney, of Toledo; her daughter, Judy (Craig) Broyles, of Marshalltown; six grandchildren: Dusten Kearney and Davide Kearney, of Yankton, South Dakota, Lucas (Erin Schuelke) Rebik, of Grimes, Emily Rebik, of Chicago, Illinois, Benjamin Rebik, of Des Moines, and Nicole Osborn, of Shellsburg; three great grandchildren: Madisen Kearney, Morgen Kearney and Reagan Rebik. Also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Aughe, of Crete, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Daniel Kearney Jr.; grandson, Dwayne Kearney; sister, Sharon Crawford; brother, Larry Yilek; and her longtime companion, Dick Chizek.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Tama County Humane Society.
