Keith Edmund Hanus, 90

Keith Edmund Hanus, 90, of the Iowa Veteran Home in Marshalltown, formerly of Tama, passed away on Tuesday, August 16th, 2022.

Keith was born on April 16th, 1932, in Tama the son of Frank and Lillian (Thedens) Hanus. Frankás nickname for Keith was “Bud” which he went by throughout his life.

Keith served his country in the Navy assigned to the USS T.E. Chandler DD717 destroyer from 1951 to 1954. He returned to Tama following the death of his Father and took over the Hanus Heating and Plumbing business.

Keith was united in marriage to Phyllis Hyde and later divorced.

Keith will be remembered for his colorful welders caps and bib overalls. He had many passions and hobbies which included building and flying his 1947 Aeronca airplane, leather working, old cars especially model Ts, small gas engines (many visits to the Mt. Pleasant engine shows), making guitars and violins, his love of old time country music, and ham radios. He was a good problem solver.

Survivors are one sister Dorothy (Hanus) Chmelik and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding his death are his parents, sister Caroline Hanus, brother Gaylord, brother-in-laws Joe Hanus and Don Chmelik.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on September 16th at the Tama Oak Hill Cemetery.
