Wayne Merle Alexander, 82

Wayne Merle Alexander, 82, of Toledo, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.

Wayne was born on June 9, 1940, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Darrell and Hilma (Klenk) Alexander.

Wayne served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years.

On October 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Dorthy Sotyn. They would have celebrated their 60th Anniversary in October. Wayne worked at Eagle Iron in Des Moines and Gra-Iron in Marshalltown. He enjoyed collecting insulators, model trains and Tama memorabilia. Wayne liked fishing, photography and writing poetry.

Survivors include his wife, Dorthy, of Toledo; his children, Debbie (Mike) Hofert, of Marshalltown and Donny Alexander, of Slocomb, AL; grandchildren: Cathy Schmidt, Michael (Sheena) Hofert, Alyssa Alexander, Nathan Hofert and Wesley Hofert; several great grandchildren; his siblings: Keith (Arlene) Alexander, of Des Moines and Allan (Becky) Alexander, of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Larry (Pat) Alexander; great granddaughter, Shelby Schmidt; and brother-in-law, John Sotyn.

A memorial fund will be established.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
