Scott Thomas Vargason was born in Iowa City on May 21, 1972, to parents Henry “Rick” and Cathy (Faust) Vargason. He attended school in Oelwein and graduated with the Class of 1990. On December 7, 1996, he was united in marriage with Catrena Chan-Vance in Oelwein. Scott worked as a licensed plumber and HVAC technician.

Scott loved life, and was one to take everything in and interpret it with his sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, tinkering with his tools, fishing or doing projects with the family. He recently built a chicken coop and was working on remodeling his new acreage. He loved tending to his chickens. Crowing at his rooster Kyle or letting Red and Gizmo follow him around the property.

Scott was a Jack of all trades. He enjoyed carpentry that he learned from his father, but was a licensed plumber and 3rd year electrical apprentice. He loved working with sound systems. The more speakers he had the happier he was. Scott obtained knowledge and information easily and loved to talk about the ins and outs of his work. Pictures would surely follow.

Scott had a deep love for music and turned a lot of people on to new albums and new bands. He enjoyed most music and really loved going to live shows. He just met Chip Z’Nuff last year, which was a highlight of his year.

But first and foremost, Scott loved his family! Like all families they have their ups and downs but always stayed together. Whether he was calming his wife’s temper down, stopping the boys from fighting, helping Keynan with their plumbing, or just jamming with Colton, he did his best to provide and teach them all.

Scott shared a lot with everyone he met. Always willing to help a friend and family in need. All doing it with that cheesy smile. Scott worked hard his whole short life, now his work is done. Rest easy.

Left to celebrate Scott’s life are his wife Catrena; his children: Keynan (Maggie) Voshell, of Oelwein, Colton Vargason, of Cedar Rapids, Colin Vargason, of Toledo, and Caiden Vargason, of Toledo; his parents Rick and Cathy Vargason, of Oelwein; his brother Seth Vargason, of Oelwein; his father and mothers-in-law: Frank and Mary Jo Thurn, of Chelsea, and Anthony and Marie Chan, of San Francisco; his brothers-in-law: Anthony (Tiffany) Chan-Vance, of Marion, Frankie (Julie) Thurn, of Manchester, William Thurn, of Manchester, Ryan (Erica) Chan, of San Francisco, Danny (Liana) Chan, of San Francisco, and sister-in-law Jennifer Chan, of San Francisco; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his beloved dogs and chickens.
