Judy Dolash

On October 31, 2021, Judy Lorene (Paustian) Dolash of Toledo, entered into eternal rest at the age of 73, while at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Cremation was chosen and no funeral service will be held.

Judy was born on June 29, 1948, at Marshalltown Community Hospital and was the second child of Lowell and Lorene (Kahler/Carstensen) Paustian. At a young age, Judy fought though rheumatic fever, although the impact from that disease followed her throughout her life, but it did not stop her determination.

Judy was raised on a farm south of Gladbrook. After graduating from Gladbrook Community School in 1966, she attended Gerald’s School of Cosmetology in Marshalltown and earned her state license in 1967. She then worked at the Modern Beauty Shop in Gladbrook and several area shops.

On August 1, 1968, she married Ronald Dolash at Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. They lived on farms in the Tama and Gladbrook area. In 1979, they moved to the “city” of Toledo (Iowa), where she lived till her passing.

Judy was employed for 17 years at the Sunrise Sotique in Toledo. Judy was a sewing and crocheting wizard. Her fur babies Rudy and Sam even had crocheted pet blankets. Judy was an excellent baker and cake decorator, making fabulous and tasty birthday, communion, wedding, and anniversary cakes, which were enjoyed by family and friends.

At the age of 47, she returned to school at Marshalltown Community College and graduated Phi Theta Kappa with a GPA of 4.0 in Computer Science and received the Outstanding Computer Science Award in 1998. She went on to work for F & M (Citizen’s) Bank for 8 ½ years, retiring in December of 2007 due to health reasons.

During retirement, Judy enjoyed going out to coffee or lunch with her friends, especially with Janet and Sylvia. She also enjoyed posting humorous articles on Facebook, along with many posts to her grandchildren reminding them how much she loved them. Her greatest joys were the time spent with her husband of 53 years, three grandsons, her family, and friends.

Survivors include her husband Ron at the IVH in Marshalltown; one daughter, Tammy Dolash-Goldsmith; three grandsons, Andy (Yumi) Oelmann, of Iwakuni, Japan; Ben (Amber) Oelmann of Mora, MN; and Luke Reitzler of Grimes, IA; two great-children, LJ and Audrianna Oelmann; one brother: Jerry Paustian, of Gladbrook; one sister, Joleen (Ron) Jepsen of West Des Moines, and three step-brothers: David Axler, John Kopriva, of Traer, and Duane (Cindy) Axler of Newton.

Preceding her in death were her parents Lowell and Lorene Paustian, step-mother Betty Paustian, and a step-sister Bonnie Kopriva.

A memorial fund has been established in Judy’s memory.
