Carolyn Alamo

Carolyn Jean Alamo, “A-so-me-wa”, 71, of Tama, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at home surrounded by her family and under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, October 25, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Luke Kapayou as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Sunday evening, October 24, 2021 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.
Carolyn was born on August 4, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Laura (Davenport) Kapayou Sr.
Carolyn served her country in the U.S. Army.
She retired from Sac & Fox Settlement School as a Culture Teacher. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandkids and watching her grandkids play sports. She also liked baking and playing Bingo.
Survivors include daughters, Christina (Garner) Alamo, Christine (Rod) Duncalf, and Christie (Travis) Kapayou all of Tama; sons, Chris Kapayou, and Jack (Rowena) Alamo both of Tama; numerous grandkids; sisters, Lynn Morgan, Anita Kapayou, Kay Waseskuk, Jami Kapayou, and Winona Kapayou all of Tama; brothers, Roy Kapayou Jr., Joey Kapayou, and adopted brother, Homer Bear Jr. all of Tama; aunts; uncles; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Laura Kapayou Sr; grandmother, Ada K. Old Bear; brother, Norbert Peters; aunts, Rosemary Wanatee, Norma Jean Davenport, and Chloe Youngbear; and uncles, David Old Bear, and Garry Davenport Sr.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
