Orrie Lasley Sr.

Orrie Lasley Sr., 79, of Tama, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at his home on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama under the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Sunday, September 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Saturday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Orrie was born on July 22, 1942, on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Minnie (Old Bear) Lasley.

He graduated from Tama High School.

On September 7, 1962, he married Amelia Buffalo on the Meskwaki Settlement. Orrie was employed as a tool and dye machinist. He enjoyed singing traditional Meskwaki songs during the annual Pow Wow, planting and harvesting crops, hunting, trapping, making maple syrup, going to antique stores, reading, playing fast pitch softball and catching for Chas. Orrie was very friendly and liked visiting with people.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Amelia; sons, Larry Sr. (Marcine), Orrie Jr. (Sonja), and Joey (Nana); daughters, Laurie (Javier), Leigh, and Allison; grandchildren, Miles, Nena, Lyrik, Kadyn, Lorenzo, Francisco, Marquez, Sterling, Larry Jr., Laila, Iyawa, Nunlee, and Choosi; great-grandchildren, Olythia, Wyomia, Evie, Maxwell, and Villani; sister, Toni; nephew, Brent and children, Sophia, Syrus, and Sorin; aunts, V. Wanda and Rae Jean; Davenport family, Mack family, and Youngbear family; and several cousins also survive.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Larry and Gerard; great-granddaughter, Oreliah; paternal grandparents, Harvey and Kiwena Whitebreast Lasley; maternal grandmother, Mary Mitchell; maternal grandfather, Peter Old Bear; and several uncles and aunts.
