Evan Kapayou

Evan “Rev” Raye Kapayou, De-gi-ga-ta, 50, of Tama, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Unity Point Marshalltown Medical Center. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. A Traditional Wake was held Monday evening at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Evan was born on February 5, 1971, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Edward and Sylvia (Morgan) Kapayou Sr. He graduated from Flandreau Indian School.

Evan enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to music, drawing, and the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, friends and most importantly, squeef.

Survivors include his son, Anthony Kapayou; his companion, Natasha Papakee; brothers, Darwin Morgan, Kevin (Gail) Kapayou Sr., Edward (Vangie) Kapayou Jr., his twin, Eric (Nicole) Kapayou; sisters, Andrea Jarvis, Gailyn (John) Kapayou, Gayle (Aaron) Walker, Jana (Sean) Kapayour-Bear, and Erica (Larry) Kapayou; adoptive Lincoln and Young Bear families; and ne-di ma-ni; nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; brother, Anthony B. Kapayou; and nephews, Anthony D. Kapayou and Reginald Walker.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
