Derris Arlon Keahna

TAMA-Derris Arlon Keahna Jr, 30, of Tama, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at UnityPoint-Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A Christian Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday evening on June 15, 2021 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Derris was born on July 22, 1990, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Derris and Laureen (Wolf) Keahna Sr.

He graduated from Riverside Indian School in 2008.

On May 17, 2011, he married Joy Blackboy at the Mesquakie Friends Church in Tama.

Derris enjoyed dancing at the Powwows. His favorite music he danced to was Fancy Dance Showdown. He was the happiest when he was with his kids, dancing at Powwows and making his own dance regalia.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Keahna of Tama; his children, Jaiyla, Oliver, and Drayven Keahna of Tama; his parents, Derris and Laureen Keahna Sr. of Tama; his siblings, Denness Keahna (Jackie Mallory) of Tama, Ashley Thompson (Dawson Davenport) of Tama, and Dairrah Keahna (Doug Thomas) of Tama; paternal grandmother, Arlene Keahna of Tama; maternal grandmother, Donna Wolf of Tama; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dennis Keahna Sr., maternal grandfather, Prentiss Wolf Sr; maternal great-grandparents, Curtis and Josephine (Mitchell) YoungBear and paternal great-grandparents, Jesse and Bessie (Lowe) Stacy.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
