Patricia Garrison

Patricia Mae Garrison, 87, from Ankeny, received her angel wings in peaceful comfort at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, IA May 27th, 2021. Anyone who met Pat, could not forget the beautiful red hair she had even in her passing, infectious laugh, and quick-witted responses. She loved to travel, was very proud of her Irish heritage and devotion to the Catholic Church. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Some of her most cherished memories included watching her grandchildren grow and meeting her great-grandchildren.

Born at Chicago Lying-in Hospital in Chicago, Ill October 12th, 1933 to Leonard and Ellen Webb. The oldest of four, she fondly remembers growing up with her oldest sister, Eileen, only brother, John, and baby sister Linda. She graduated high school from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School (Chicago, Ill) in 1952. Her first job was as an elevator operator for the Conrad-Hilton Hotel in Chicago. She later worked for Publisher’s Development Corporation, also in Chicago, of which she had many stories and memories.

She met James “Jim” Garrison of Kearney, NE while both were vacationing in Miami FL, following his tour in the Korean War. She was courted through many letters. Once he was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps, they married at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church on the Southside Chicago, Ill in 1955. They started their family in the first home Jim built for Pat in Kearney, NE where they had their three children. They later moved to Grinnell, IA in 1969. In 1977, Jim began building their most cherished home on their property in rural Toledo, IA where they lived until moving to their last home in Saylorville Township (Ankeny), IA in 1995.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Webb; husband, Jim Garrison; Grandson, Bryant Garrison; and many other extended family.

In addition to many beloved extended family, she is survived by her sisters, Eileen (Ben) Piller of Strasburg, Co. and Linda (Tery) Albright of Concord, NC. Daughters, Pamela Ellen (Damon) Talley of Prairie City, IA, Beth Ann (Gregory) McPherson of Earlham, IA, and son, Anthony James (AJ) Garrison of Madrid, IA. Surviving grandchildren include Nicholas (Suzanne) Talley and their children, Donovan and Barrett Talley of Adel, IA; Lindsey (Tyler) Gilbert and their children Lane and Logan Gilbert of Adel, IA; Megan Talley (Phillip Gatewood) and their daughters, Kalynn and Tara Gateway of Boone, IA; and Kaitlyn Garrison of Dell Rapids, SD.

A visitation will be held at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny, IA on Monday, June 7th, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Her celebration of life will be held after the visitation at 2:00. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, IA after the service.
