Timothy “Tim” LaVerne Hand, 56, of Grimes, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Unity Point – Hospice, Taylor House, surrounded by his family. In February of this year, Tim was diagnosed with a Grade IV Glioblastoma. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19 at Iles Dunn’s Chapel, Des Moines. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20 at Dunn’s Chapel followed by cremation. Beginning at 10:15, services will be live-streamed from Tim’s page on the funeral home website www.IlesCares.com.

Tim was born in Grinnell, Iowa, on August 14, 1964, to LaVerne and Helen (Shuler) Hand. He grew up on a farm near Tama, where he graduated from South Tama High School in 1983. After high school Tim worked at the Iowa Juvenile Home until he relocated to West Des Moines, Iowa, with his son Blake. In June of 2005, Tim met Pam, whom he later married on December 23, 2007. Tim worked as a maintenance property manager for various residential and commercial properties around Des Moines. Most recently he worked at Heritage Building Maintenance as an Operations Manager. For a short time prior to his passing Tim worked in sales at Filter Queen, of Urbandale, Iowa.

Tim enjoyed spending his time outdoors – camping, fishing, planting spring flowers and tending to his yard. Tim also loved watching sports, especially cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Dallas Cowboys. He cherished time watching wrestling with his son Blake as well. We will miss his laugh, his smile and his meticulous cleaning style, among many other things. Tim will be remembered as a kind, big-hearted, and strong husband, son, father, and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 13 years, Pam of Grimes, Iowa and pet, Brinkley; parents, LaVerne and Helen Hand of West Des Moines, Iowa; children, Blake Hand of West Des Moines, Iowa and Larissa (Austin) Siemens of Beaman, Iowa; two granddaughters, Olivia and Emma Siemens; step-daughters, Meghan (William) Agans of Norwalk, Iowa, and Madison Johnston of Waukee, Iowa; sister, LaVerna (Don) Kellogg of Montour, Iowa; and mother-in-law, Marilyn Pollak of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as many extended family members and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Grayson; and father-in-law, Charles Pollak.

Tim’s family would like to thank his MercyOne Radiation and Oncology team, along with the Unity Point Hospice team for their loving care during his final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, Pam would prefer memorials given to her and in Tim’s honor she will be making donations to MercyOne Radiation and Oncology, Taylor House, and High Point Church.
