Audrey Alice Wheeler

TAMA-Audrey Alice Wheeler, 85, of Clive and formerly of Tama, passed away peacefully at her home, Woodlands Creek Senior Living, Wednesday, April 28, 2021. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father David Kucera, Deacons Rob and Nick Stark officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 10 AM until the time of Mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Masks should be worn at the attendee’s personal discretion.

Audrey was born on August 1, 1935, in Columbia Township in Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Guy F. and Kathryn A. (Duffy) Belton.

She graduated from Tama High School in 1953.

On June 30, 1954, she married Dick Long. He passed away in 1961. On March 15, 1965, she married Terry Wheeler in Sterling, IL. Audrey was a secretary for the Soil and Water Conservation District for thirty-two years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama where she was involved in the CCW. She was also a member of the Tama American Legion Auxiliary. She was currently a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale, IA. Audrey enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved spending time with her grandpuppy, Sophie. Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.

Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Steve) Phipps of Waukee; one son, David (Ann) Long of Urbandale; two granddaughters, Rachael (Paul) Wampler of Clive, and Natalie Long of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, Pippa, Daxton, and Lola Wampler; two brothers, Larry (Regina) Belton of Arthur, IL, and Guy (Peggy) Belton of Hudson; two sisters, Jo Ann (Buck) Ringler of Grinnell, and Sharon (Larry) Beck of Chelsea; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Guy and Kathryn Belton; stepmother, Dorothy Belton; husbands, Dick Long, and Terry Wheeler; son, Steven Long; infant daughter, Kathryn A. Long; and brothers, Robert Belton and Dean Belton.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale, or Unity Point Hospice.
