Ken Moffett

On Sunday, January 17, 2021, Kenneth Moffett, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 75.

Ken was born on August 30, 1945 at the family home in Montour, IA, to Murry and Carole (Smith) Moffett. The route from junior farm mechanic to college instrumentation specialist first took Ken to Iowa State University in Ames for an industrial arts education degree. Then, about to be drafted, he joined the Air Force and taught English in Vietnam, moving on to graphics work with NOR AD in Tacoma, Washington. When he left the service he came to Minnesota for a medical electronics degree, which led to a 23-year job in Biomedical Engineering Services at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. He next joined a software start-up doing customer data analysis, software installation, and user training. Finally, he took a job looking for a creative person with machine knowledge who liked working with students. He was ecstatic. It was a wonderful job at a wonderful school. Most students had barely worked with tools before but quickly picked it up from him to create what they needed for their projects.

Ken has always been a learner, and teacher, helping friends and family make their ideas become a reality. He was a caring husband, father, and friend.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, Murry, mother, Carole and sister Sarah Jane. He is survived by his wife Barbara, his two children, Sarah (Peder), Ryan (Connie). Grandchildren, Thea, Grace, Rellie, Felix, and Leo, Brothers, Sid (Sherry), Joel (Shirley), & Bruce (Josie).

A virtual visitation was held Thursday January 21st from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and a virtual memorial service on Friday, January 22nd.

The family has designated The American Cancer Society and The National Kidney Foundation for memorial contributions.
