Eldon L. Joy

TAMA-Eldon L. Joy, 72, of Tama, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021 at UnityPoint Health- Marshalltown. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, January 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. A Traditional Wake was held Sunday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Eldon was born on May 6, 1948 in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Virginia Potts and LeRoy Duncan.

He attended Haskell Jr. College.

Eldon married Carolyn Wanatee on May 21, 1971 in Tama, Iowa. Eldon and Carolyn lived together for forty-nine years. They have six children together, sixteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Eldon worked as a truck driver and worked security at the Bingo Hall at the Casino. He liked to ride motorcycles, travel, camp, and spend time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn of Tama; sons, Arlo (Melinda) Wanatee, and Colton (Tanya) Joy; daughters, Elynn Joy, Tanata Joy, Brienne Joy, Savannah Joy, and Virginia Joy; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Roberts, Sharon Mervin, and Cheryl Wright; and brothers, Preston and Vincent Duncan.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank Pushetonequa Sr.; his parents; sisters, Deloris Duncan, and Lahoma Reightinger; and brothers, Dewayne and Dallas Duncan.
