Edward Hardon

Ed Hardon

Edward Thomas Hardon, 80, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020, in the care of Iowa River Hospice at Premier Estates in Toledo.

Ed was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Alice (Bru) and George “Jack” Hardon on May 4, 1940. He graduated from Tama High School and attended DeVry College in Chicago. After college, Ed worked in his uncle Bud Bru’s business until he started his own business in his parents’ garage.

Ed married Gloria Lage of Gladbrook, Iowa, on December 23, 1962. Together, they adopted their only son, Marty, in 1973. The family took many road trips – Ed loved the journey more than the destination.

Ed took great joy in working alongside Marty, to whom he sold his family business in 2010. He never retired. Ed enjoyed every day, doing what he loved.

He especially loved seeing downtown Tama grow. In addition to his own revitalization projects, Ed spent countless hours in service to the community through the ambulance service, Chamber of Commerce and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

One of Ed’s greatest joys came late in life – granddaughters. He cherished playing trains and buying them ice cream.

Ed is survived by his wife, Gloria; son Marty (Danielle) Hardon and granddaughters Catherine and Grace, all of Tama. Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his aunts and uncles.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

Condolences may be sent to Hardon’s in Tama.
