Oreliah Ronin Lasley-Chavez

Oreliah Ronin Lasley-Chavez, 4, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at home on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama under the care of her family and Hospice Compassus. There will be a Traditional Wake on Tuesday evening, November 24, 2020 at Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Morgan Cemetery on the Settlement. The family requests that social distancing be practiced and masks be worn. It is also requested that anyone wishing to attend the wake to please pay their respects and then exit the Ceremonial Building.

Oreliah was born on May 3, 2016, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Nena C. Lasley-Chavez.

She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in December 2018 and was receiving care at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. Bubby enjoyed The Little Mermaid, reading Pete the Cat books, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her mom, Nena of Tama; her dad, DeMarce E. Keahna of Tama; siblings, Olythia and Villani of Tama; grandparents, Leigh Lasley of Tama, and Brian Chavez of New Mexico; great-grandparents, Orrie Sr. and Amelia Lasley of Tama, and Francisco and Naomi Chavez of New Mexico; additional grandparents, Laurie (Javier) Lasley-Santos, Larry (Marcine) Lasley Sr., Allison Lasley, and Orrie (Sonja) Lasley Jr. all of Tama, Bonita Cordero, and Leah (Todd) Snow all of New Mexico; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her great aunts, Roberta Chavez and Lena Chavez.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
