Marcus Wanatee

TAMA-Marcus Dale Wanatee, 48, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at his home due to natural causes on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Friday, November 13, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the McIntosh Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement. A Private Traditional Wake will be held Thursday evening at the Myron Wanatee Jr. residence on the Settlement.

Marcus was born on August 22, 1972, in Marshalltown Iowa, the son of Myron and Carmen (Lasley) Wanatee Sr.

He attended STC High School and was an HVAC technician working in Oklahoma and at the Meskwaki Casino.

Marcus was a retired Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army Infantry, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq; 1st Armored Division 1st Combat Brigade; 1-36 Infantry Alpha Company 3rd Platoon 2nd Squad. Marcus enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hiking, yard work, working on cars, watching the Price Is Right, visits with his grandkids and children, taking cruises and listening to music.

Survivors include his children, Eden Wanatee, Araya Wanatee (Cody), Mira Wanatee (Antonio), Zekaria Wanatee and Raiden Wanatee; two grandchildren, Marceleus Williams and Moises Lopez; mother of his children, Jennie Seaboy-Wanatee; brother, Myron Wanatee Jr. (Joy); sisters, Mylene Wanatee, Lowella Balderas (Rupa) and Melinda Wanatee-Diego (Tom); and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Corina Wanatee-Minjares; and niece, Consuelo Minjares.

Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting the family with the arrangements.
