Marvin was born on October 30, 1937, in Elberon, Iowa, the son of George E. and Albina (Wisner) Yilek.

He served his country in the U.S Navy in the Seabees.

On October 2, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joyce Rudkin at the Tama Methodist Church. Marvin was a longtime employee of the Tama County Roads Department, ultimately working out of the County Engineer’s office as a Surveyor and helping draw up plans for projects. He also had a hobby farm where he raised all kinds of animals and livestock, which is how he got the nickname “Doc” because he was known for his knowledge of taking care of the animals. Marvin was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles where he held several officer positions. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, fishing, and making wine that he always donated to the Toledo Firemen’s Ball. He also loved playing cards and Dominos. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, friends and neighbors.
