TAMA-Byron Felix Nied, 72, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been afforded and no services are being planned. Byron was born October 11, 1947, to Felix Stanley and Helen (Mazur) Nied of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the eldest of three siblings. Byron was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.

He graduated from Padua Preparatory High School in New York State. He obtained a four year degree from Marquette University with a BA in Philosophy, and a Masters degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in Dubuque, Iowa. Byron was a resident of Iowa since his early twenties. He worked for twenty-three years as a self-employed Geriatric Social Worker all over Iowa.

He married Patricia Dolash in July of 1996 and they made their home in Toledo. In September of 2008, he entered Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama after suffering a severe brain trauma from a fall at home. Byron’s previous hobbies included Baseball, Scrabble, and cards. He currently enjoyed watching TV.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Toledo; one brother, Thomas Nied of Opelika, AL; two sisters, Donna Moratori of Mountaintop, PA, and Susan (David) Lee of Susquehanna, PA; brother-in-law, Tom O’Connor of Tama; step-children, Gerald (Amy) Dolash of Toledo, and Deb (Todd) Boldt of Toledo; many step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

Memorials may be sent to the family or to the Tama County Humane Society.
