Carlene Rairdin

TOLEDO-Carlene Kay Rairdin, 81, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Hospice Compassus. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 9:45-10:45 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Carlene was born on April 2, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Hubert and Hazel (Plogmann) Suchy.

She graduated from Toledo High School in 1958.

On June 14, 1959, she was united in marriage to Donald Rairdin at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo. Carlene worked at the telephone company years ago and then was a stay-at-home mom when her daughters were growing up. She later worked as a teller at the State Bank of Toledo. Carlene enjoyed going to plays and concerts with Don and spending time in her flower garden. She was a leader for Bluebirds when the girls were growing up. She later spent many hours volunteering at the Tama County Historical Museum in Toledo and was also a long time volunteer at the Wieting Theatre. Carlene was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, participating in the women’s group. In her younger years, she was a member of P.E.O. Carlene was an avid supporter of her grandson, Jake and any activity he was involved in.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Don of Tama; two daughters, Denise Rairdin of Toledo, and Diane (Aaron) Lenning of Humboldt; one grandson, Jacob Lenning; and one sister, Donna (Gene) Banes of Elberon.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and one sister in infancy.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice Compassus or the Alzheimer’s Association.
