James K. Halbig
James K. Halbig, 79, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown. He had been a resident at the Iowa Veterans Home and was recently under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Visitation will be held Friday, June 7, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Military Honors at 7 PM.
James was born on October 10, 1939, in Spokane, WA, Virgil Franklin Sr. and Esther Mae (Henderson) Halbig He graduated from high school in Spokane, WA and completed two years of college in the Marines. James served his country in the U.S. Marines for twenty years serving three tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the Armed Services, he worked at Tama Pack and had a computer shop.
On February 14, 1998, he was united in marriage to Laurie Stringer at the Community of Christ Church in Tama. James enjoyed working on computers. He was a long time member of the local Community Band and the Iowa Veterans Military Band. Later in life, he loved spending time with his children.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie of Toledo; his children, Debbie (Kenny) Galloway of Scotland, James Halbig Jr. of South Carolina, Kevin (Janelle) Halbig of Oklahoma, Angie (Mike) Gilbertson of Henderson, NV, Stacey (Dean) Landoni of Lake Havasu, AZ, Tracey O’Brien of Spokane, WA, Jamie (Jesse) Lewis of Toledo, Christine Black (Daniel Rinehart) of Des Moines, and Rebecca Halverson (Andy Catherwood) of Garwin; nineteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Virgil Franklin Halbig Jr. and Alvin Wayne Halbig.
