Donald D. Hennessy

Donald D. Hennessy, 80, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at his home in Toledo under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice. A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 4 -7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Private interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Donald was born on April 20, 1937 in Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Arthur Leo and Albye J. (Hess) Hennessy. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1955 and served his country in the Army National Guard from 1960-1963. Donald was married to Rae Jean Lasley in 1960 and they later divorced. He married Carol Damon on April 19, 1976 at the Presbyterian Church in Toledo and she preceded him in death on August 29, 2009.

Donald began working for Pioneer in Toledo shortly after graduating high school. He retired from full time employment there in 1996 and continued to work part time during the harvest season for several more years. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed fishing and watching sports. He was also a referee for junior high and high school football and basketball. Donald was also a baseball and softball umpire. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald also loved spending time with his dog, Stormy.

Survivors include four daughters, Tina Durnin, Adonica Hennessy, Delrae Hennessy, and Lasiene Hennessy all of Toledo; six step-children, Alison Damon of Des Moines, Susy Damon of Des Moines, Martha Damon of Des Moines, Randall (Patty) Damon of Des Moines, Patricia Damon of Bisbee, AZ, and Jonathan (Sarah) Damon of Plano, TX; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Darold Hennessy of Toledo; and his dog, Stormy.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Carol; and step-daughter, Phyllis Damon.
